The time was at the beginning of 1925.It was the dream of Rt. Rev. Mar Francis Vazhappilly to start a Clarist convent at Mattom which is a beautiful place near the famous St.Thomas church, Palayoor. Rev Fr. Mathew Chiramel Ollukkaran, a priest from Mattom parish was also very much interested in that subject and he bought some land for the same purpose. But before fulfilling his dream he went into heaven for his wage. So Mar Vazhappilly appointed Rev. Fr. Ookken to start the convent. With his selfless effort the construction work was over very soon. Finally in 1926 the new convent was inaugurated in the name of the Aassumption of Bl.Virgin Mary. The sisters are very much interested in house visiting and the helped the poor people. They give leadership to pious associations and prepare the dying for a good death. The local people also had love and concern to the poor clarist sisters. So they helped them generously for their living.
In 1974, a balabhavan was started with Assumption convent. At the beginning the local people themselves helped the balabhavan for it's day today life.
