The origin of Padavarad St. Teresa's convent was a clear evidence for the need of the people for the presence and service of religious people to lead them to the righteous path. Rev. Fr. Joseph Kizkakkumthala, the vicar of Ollur Forane Church realized that a church is very essential in a place like Padavarad .It was a place of immoral and economically backward people. So he wished to start a convent there to promote the moral life of the people. Then to build a church over there. He approached the FCC superiors of Assisi Province in the purpose of starting a convent. On 5th September 1973 sisters bought a piece of land from Kattukkaran Joseph Porinchu at Padavarad and started the construction work of the convent and a room for priest. The blessing of the convent was done by Vicar General Msgr. Iype Irimpan on 17th September 1974. Rev. Sr.Valaetina was appointed as the first sister superior. Along with the convent a social centre named Lilly Bhavan was started. Flower making was the prior option of that social centre. They prepared beautiful flowers for first Holy communion and it was really a blessing for the womenfolk of that locality. Then started special school for the differently abled children. The name of the school is Asha Bhavan School for the Deaf and Dumb. It is upgraded in the year 2012 into the position of a higher secondary school. Students from different parts of Kerala are studying here and enjoy the hostel facilities.
The selfless service of the sisters helped to improve the socio-economic and cultural condition of the locality a lot.
